WEST CHAZY — An almost-10-hour standoff ended peacefully after a West Chazy man who had claimed to have killed his wife surrendered voluntarily to police.
Anthony J. Panetti, 54, made that report to 911 at 11:38 p.m. Sunday, also saying he was going to end his own life, too, State Police said in a press release.
Authorities later learned Panetti’s spouse was unharmed and had been at a residence in the City of Plattsburgh when her husband called dispatchers, the release said.
In response to the 911 call, however, State Police Troop B crisis negotiators and the Special Operations Response Team went to Panetti’s home on Academy Street.
At 8:55 a.m. Monday, Panetti voluntarily came out of his home and was taken into custody, police said.
Assisting in the response were the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol.
A trooper accompanied Panetti to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for an evaluation, Plattsburgh-based State Police said on Tuesday.
Chris Blake, publications specialist/public relations with CVPH, told the Press-Republican that Panetti was discharged from the hospital on Jan. 14; the hospital had no record showing he was seen on Monday.
