TULSA, Okla. — Police released video of the moment a sniper fatally shot an armed man who was holding his estranged wife’s daughter hostage.
Tulsa World reported Salvador Reyes, 42, was in a three-hour standoff with police Oct. 17 after he forced himself into his wife’s home after she reportedly filed for divorce.
Police told the publication Reyes grabbed the 2-year old girl while the woman and her three other children escaped and called authorities.
Reyes was originally on the front lawn, but barricaded himself and the young girl in the home shortly after police arrived.
Reyes appeared on the second floor balcony multiple times holding the girl and a firearm, according to the publication. Attempts to negotiate were unsuccessful.
Officer Jason Lawless, a special ops sniper, fired the head shot, killing Reyes instantly.
“That was a hell of a shot,” one officer can be heard saying.
The child was uninjured and turned over to her mother, according to the report. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
