‘The Gunman': Action thriller and window into Special Forces

Sean Penn stars as a former Special Operations agent who went underground after a successful kill

By Police1 Staff

Directed by Pierre Morel (Taken), The Gunman stars Sean Penn as a former Special Operations agent who went underground after killing the minister of mines in the Congo. Years later, fallout from the operation forces him to come out of hiding and he becomes the target of a hit squad himself.

While The Gunman is largely an action film, it also shines light on the lives of former Special Forces troops looking to make a living after their military career is over. Most often, Americans think of elite troops only in terms of Navy SEALs or Army Rangers. In an interview with Under The Radar, Morel points out that Special Forces exist in militaries all over the world and often times retired elite from all backgrounds band together.

The Gunman is currently in theaters nationwide. Check out the trailer and let us know if you’d go see it.
