Hit-and-run driver injures Tenn. deputy

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — A Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy suffered minor back and neck injuries Monday night when his patrol car was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver.

Officer Ernie Bowman was on duty and stopped at a traffi c light on Asheville Highway at Strawberry Plains Pike shortly after 11 p.m. when he was struck.

An unknown type of van rear-ended his patrol car, backed up and took off at a high rate of speed, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Martha Dooley.

Bowman was treated and released at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
