LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat valued at approximately $100,000 was crushed this week by the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department after it was determined to contain stolen parts, including a high-performance engine, Local 12 News reported.

The SUV was seized during the 2024 Street Rod Nationals and deemed unfit for auction or department use due to legal and liability concerns, according to the report. Officials confirmed that stolen components made the vehicle ineligible for resale or integration into the city fleet.
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg authorized the destruction of the vehicle, calling it a message against illegal street racing and reckless driving.
“This isn’t just about one car,” LMPD wrote in a statement posted to social media along with video of the crushing. “It’s about protecting lives, restoring order, and showing that our city stands united against reckless behavior.”
Officials said the vehicle was among 167 seized under the city’s street racing enforcement ordinance since 2023.
“Let this serve as a warning to those who think they can turn our streets into speedways. We’re watching. We’re acting. And we’re not backing down,” LMPD said.
