Court Overturns Conviction After Police Chase

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned the conviction of a Des Moines man who led police on a car chase through the city.

Court records said Roger Doggett and his girlfriend walked into Prairie Meadows shortly after midnight on Nov. 14, 2002, seeking to exchange nearly 3,000 quarters.

When security officials questioned Doggett, he left, getting in his car and speeding off. He led police on a chase that saw speeds of more than 100 mph. He was eventually captured and charged with eluding police.

The high court said his lawyer was ineffective for not challenging the eluding charge, saying there was no evidence he had committed a crime before the chase began.
