NM officer dies in off-duty motorcycle crash

LAS CRUCES, NM — The Las Cruces Police department is mourning the loss of one of their own following a motorcycle crash at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

The intersection of Lohman Street and Indian Springs was blocked off for more than three hours as police diagrammed the scene to learn what led to the crash.

While the investigation is continuing, but at this point police believe that the officer was riding his personal motorcycle when he T-boned an oncoming car.

Paramedics did what they could, but the officer died at the scene.

“It is very sad for the officers. It is also very sad to think that this young man has a family, he has parents that care for him. So, all of us in the Las Cruces police department are grieving tonight and are grieving for his family,” said Dan Trujillo of the Las Cruces Police Department.

The driver of the car was not injured and police said he does not face any charges as of early Friday morning.

The name of the officer has not been released and memorial services are still being planned.
