The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - A man opened fire at a crowded convenience store early Wednesday, wounding three customers, and then was shot by officers who happened to be present, authorities said.

Three people, including the suspect, were in critical condition after the shootings in a Wawa store in South Philadelphia at around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Two police officers were in the store and confronted the gunman. When the gunman refused to put down his weapon, the officers shot him, police said.

The names of the victims and the gunman weren’t immediately released.

Police said it didn’t appear the gunman was trying the rob the store itself, but either had an argument with his victims or was trying to rob them.

The gunman was admitted to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition. The three people he allegedly shot were taken to Jefferson Hospital. Two of them were in critical condition while the third was in fair condition.
