VANCOUVER, Wash. — A burglar ran into some trouble when he broke into an escape room but couldn’t find his way out.

On Sunday, a burglar broke into the NW Escape Experience, which is an entertainment center that challenges groups to work together, find clues and solve puzzles to escape a room, KPIX reported. The burglar took a cellphone, a TV remote and a beer before realizing that he couldn’t find his way out, according to KOIN.

The man reportedly broke through the back door, but he damaged it so badly trying to get in, he couldn’t reopen it, according to CNN. The dilemma led the burglar to call 911 to help him get out. When he did manage to get out, a police officer promptly arrested him.

“The sheriff said he had a burrito and he was settling in to have a breakfast and a beer I guess and then got scared because he couldn’t get out,” Rob Bertrand, owner of NW Escape Experience, told KOIN.

The suspect, identified as Rye Daniel Wardlaw, faces a charge of second-degree burglary.

“We’re going to start claiming that we’re the only escape room in the nation that has 100 percent capture rate for criminals,” Bertrand said.
