NEW YORK — A lieutenant in Manhattan’s Ninth Precinct is suing the city and her former commander for sexual discrimination, alleging he undermined her authority and retaliated against her for filing a complaint against a subordinate who called her the c-word.

Maureen Gill claims that when she admonished the male subordinate for his chronic lateness in May 2008, he called her a c- - -.

“The city and its agents have a long history of discrimination against female supervisors,” Gill charges in court papers filed yesterday in Brooklyn federal court.

When she moved to have him suspended, the precinct commander, Dennis DeQuatro, intervened and told her not to, the suit says. He recommended that she file an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint instead.

Gill says she followed those orders - and that’s when the unequal treatment began.

DeQuatro transferred her to midnight platoon and she started getting low performance evaluations despite doing more work than her male colleagues, the suit says.

The Police Department did not respond to a request for comment.
