FONTANA, Calif. — A parrot that flew into the office of Fontana’s police chief on Tuesday, Jan. 26, was returned to its family on Wednesday, Jan. 27, the Police Department said.

The parrot, named Verde, was reunited with its family on Wednesday morning after the family reached out and identified the bird, said Officer Kevin Anderson, spokesman for the Fontana Police Department.

Verde was being chased by a hawk and flew into Fontana Chief of Police Billy Green’s office on Tuesday afternoon through a window, the Police Department said. Green chased off the hawk and helped the parrot to safety, the department said in a Facebook post.
