BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Two local men were being held on bond after an incident in which they attempted to destroy evidence in the back of a police car.
Arrested in the incident was Derek Nicholas Bock, 33, on charges of possession of amphetamine, failure to yield from stop sign and destroying evidence, and Timothy Wayne Povlick, 35, on charges of failure to appear, possession of amphetamine and destroying evidence.
According to the case’s probable cause affidavit, around 2:16 a.m. on April 25 Bartlesville Police Department officers stopped a car driven by Bock after a traffic infraction. At that time it was found that Bock and his passenger, Povlick, both had active warrants for their arrest.
Police say the two were into custody and placed in the back seat of the squad car. Officers then returned to Bock’s vehicle where they reportedly found digital scales that contained meth residue.
Police say they got a surprise, however, when they reviewed dash-cam footage of the two handcuffed men in the back of the car while police were searching Bock’s vehicle. According to the report, as soon as police walked away from the squad car, Povlick asked Bock to take baggies of methamphetamine out of his mouth, saying that one of the three baggies had broken and that he had eaten part of an “8 ball.”
Bock then reportedly agreed to take the baggies and the two “exchange a kiss” to pass the drugs from one to another. The two then proceed to talk about what they were being charged with and “how lucky they were to be getting off so lightly.”
When questioned about the contents of the video, Bock reportedly told police that he had eaten “very little methamphetamine” but that he “did eat the baggie it was contained in to try to hide it for Povlick,” the affidavit states.
According to BPD investigator David Hackler, Bock later requested that he be taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Hackler said
Bock was taken to Jane Phillips Medical Center.
Bond was set in both cases at $40,000.
