Houston police arrested a man suspected of murdering four young girls, officials told News2Houston Monday.
Anthony Allen Shore, 41, was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of capital murder, police said.
The victims, who died of strangulation, include:
Laurie Lee Tremblay, 15, who died Sept. 26, 1986. Her body was found behind a restaurant at 10694 Westheimer.
Maria Del Carmen Estrada, 21, who died April 16, 1992. She was abducted as she walked to work from her apartment at 7200 Shadyvilla. Her body was found hours later in a parking lot of a business at 6707 Westview.
Diana Rebollar, 9, who died Aug. 7, 1994. She was abducted in the 6600 block of North Main as she returned home from a nearby convenience store. Her body was found at 1440 North Loop. She had been sexually assaulted.
Dana Sanchez, 16, who died July 6, 1995. She was last seen talking on a payphone at West Cavalcade at Airline. On July 14, her body was found on North View Park.
Investigators said they got a break in the case when evidence sent to a private DNA lab in Dallas linked Shore to one of the cases.
He was on probation for sexual assaulting family members.
Police said Shore confessed to the murders, as well as the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in October 1993. Investigators said he sexually assaulted the girl in her home in the 1900 block of Portsmouth after she came home from school to find him in the kitchen.
“He is a sexual predator. He is an evil person. He is a guy that preyed on young women and girls for sexual reasons,” said Sgt. John Swaim, with the Houston Police Department.
Investigators said Shore was married with a family when he was caught, but his family did not know about his past. He lived most of his life in Houston, working different jobs. Most recently, he was a wrecker driver.
“The man is evil. He needs to be off the streets and he is off the street,” Swaim said. “Good triumphed over evil last Friday.”
Police believe the 14-year-old victim, who is now an adult, will be an important witness during his trial.
Shore is in the Harris County jail, held without bond.
“We’re encouraging other agencies around here -- that if they have any cases that involve young females that were strangled and dumped -- that they need to look at him real, real, real hard,” Swaim said.
