An observant La Vista police officer may have caught a police imposter making a phony traffic stop.
La Vista Police Officer Brian Stolley was patrolling Friday at 11:20 p.m. near the La Vista Sports Complex on South 66th Street when he saw a white 1999 Lincoln Navigator that was apparently trying to stop another vehicle.
Strobe lights were flashing from the SUV’s grill, police said.
Stolley thought the SUV might be an unmarked police car making a legitimate stop, so he turned around and approached it. By then, the other car had left.
The SUV driver was evasive when Stolley questioned him, police said. La Vista officers discovered that the strobe lights could be operated with a toggle switch inside the SUV.
Police arrested the driver, a 21-year-old Omaha man, on suspicion of impersonating a police officer, no operator’s license and flashing lights violation. He was booked into the Sarpy County Jail.
