St. Paul, Minn. (AP) -- Authorities are offering a $100,000 reward for tips that lead to the arrest and conviction in the 1970 killing of St. Paul police officer James Sackett.
He was killed by a sniper while he responded to a fake call for help at a home in the Summit-University area.
Sackett and his partner thought they were responding to a call of a pregnant woman about to give birth. Instead, they found a dark house and no one answered the front door. Sackett’s partner went around the back, and Sackett was gunned down by a sniper with a high-powered rifle.
Sackett’s case is the only unsolved police killing in the city.
The reward is being offered by Spotlight On Crime, a fund that gives cash rewards for information that helps solve violent crimes.
