CHICAGO, Ill. — A retired Chicago police officer with Alzheimer’s disease went missing from his nursing facility on the North Side early Tuesday morning.
George Greenlee, 70, was last seen at the Sunrise Assisted Living Facility, 2710 N. Clark St., about 6:15 a.m., according to a news release from the Woodlawn Organization, a non-for-profit group geared toward providing social service programs in Chicago communities.
Greenlee, whose daughter Georgette Greenlee-Finney was recently appointed executive director of T.W.O, was wearing a wander guard bracelet since he was identified as an elopement risk.
He was waiting by the front door of the facility for a staff worker to take a morning walk with her and the facility’s dog when he disappeared, the release stated.
Greenlee, who served 30 years with the police department before his retirement, was wearing a tan jacket, a golf hat, jeans and probably a sweatshirt. He is described as African American, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 195 to 210 pounds and has gray hair.
Chicago Police Officer John Henry said Belmont Area detectives have since filed a missing person’s report on Greenlee’s disappearance.
Anyone with information regarding his disappearance is asked to contact Chicago police at 312-744-8200 or the assisted living facility at 773-244-0005.
