GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Cell phone video captured an interaction between a Washington man and the sheriff’s deputy he accused of breaking the law.

Fox 13 reports the self-proclaimed ‘liberty speaker’ Gav Seim confronted the deputy after motioning him to stop his vehicle and suggested that the patrol car the deputy was driving was illegal for being unmarked.

The officer, who identifies himself as Deputy Camfield, informed Seim that the vehicle was new and awaiting custom decals. Seim claimed that the unmarked car was still in violation of the law.

Seim specifically mentions RCW 46.08.065, which Fox 13 cites as saying, “all publicly owned vehicles must be marked except for some Washington State Patrol vehicles, and other vehicles permitted special exemption used by law enforcement.”

The verbal exchange between the two lasts over 10 minutes in the video posted October 11. Garnering over 500,000 views, some commenters took note of the officer’s patient interaction with Seim, while others argued over the validity of Seim’s legal claims.

Deputy Camfield’s department spokesman Kyle Foreman credited the officer for his patience and backed up Camfield’s explanation of why the car was unmarked.

“We commend Deputy Camfield for his tact and diplomacy,” Foreman told Fox 13. “It was simply a brand new car awaiting a decal.”
