Video: Philly cop attempting to break up street fight scuffles with teen

PHILADELPHIA — An altercation between an officer and a teenage girl is under investigation after the video went viral on social media.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross said the interaction occurred after officers were called to the scene to break up a large street fight Monday, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

In the video, the officer is seen moving the teen away from a crowd and then throwing her to the ground and punching her.

Ross told the publication that the officer admitted to the altercation. He said what the video doesn’t show is the teen slapping the officer.

He said the teen admitted to the altercation and slapping the officer. Her story was “virtually identical” to the officer’s.

The officer suffered facial bruises, but refused medical treatment. The teen was taken to a local hospital for neck pain.

The officer is currently off street duty pending the investigation.
