ST. LOUIS — A Missouri man who impersonated a federal drug agent, conducting raids and making arrests, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Bill Jakob was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. He did not speak during the hearing and declined an interview request afterward.

Jakob pleaded guilty in September to a long list of federal charges, including 13 counts of impersonating federal officers. Authorities say he carried a shotgun, participated in drug raids and made arrests until the ruse unraveled in the eastern Missouri town of Gerald.

Jakob’s attorney has said his client Jakob perpetrated the elaborate scheme because he wanted deep down to be a police officer.

His participation in arrests and drug raids has prompted lawsuits against the town and led to the ouster of Gerald’s police chief.
