Officer Freddy Ortiz was 44 years old and had served the U.S. Border Patrol for 13 years

Moody police Sgt. Stephen Williams, who was ambushed and killed while responding to a 911 call in 2020, was awarded Officer of the Year in 2019
Officer Billy Clardy III was 48 years old when he was shot and killed in December 2019 during an undercover drug operation
“SPO Tran was a highly-respected police officer and member of the Des Moines Department family, and will forever be remembered for his selfless service to the community”
The two detectives said they had to work around the clock following the incident and even had to miss officer Aréanah Preston’s funeral
Gustavo Morales killed Officer Jorge “JD” Alvarado on Feb. 25, 2022; he faces life in prison without parole
Nicholas McDaniel worked for the department for nearly a year and was engaged to be married
All suspects in the fatal shooting have been arrested
Goodland Police Chief Frank Hayes Jr. suffered the heart attack after successfully negotiating a two-hour police standoff
A colleague described David “DJ” Carter as a “quiet giant” and said “he was a damn good deputy ... one of the ones that is hard to come by”
Alexander Batista-Polanco, 21, and Hendrick Peña-Fernandez, 21, were arrested Tuesday and Wednesday, First Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said at a news conference
San Benito Lt. Milton Resendez was fatally shot as his vehicle crossed paths with the suspects’ vehicle
