SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation created a virtual candlelight vigil to honor officers who died in the line of duty in 2019.
The 24th annual candlelight vigil would have been held Sunday evening at the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Monument at the State Capitol.
However, the foundation said because of the novel coronavirus outbreak and the resulting stay at home order, the in-person vigil was canceled for 2020.
“Although our 15 fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will receive full traditional honors at the 2021 Memorial Ceremonies, we honorably acknowledge their noble service and dedication to their communities and the State of California,” the foundation said on Facebook.
The foundation produced a 2-minute video and posted it on Facebook to honor the slain officers. Five officers from Northern California died in the line of duty in 2019:
