ATASCOCITA, Texas — An off-duty deputy was killed in a shooting on August 28 while driving home after picking up food for his family, according to ABC 13.

A dark-colored sedan pulled up next to Harris County Deputy Omar Ursin, 37, and shots were fired toward the driver’s side of Ursin’s vehicle. Ursin then crashed into a tree located in a median. He died at a local hospital.

“The reason for the shooting at this point is unknown,” Sgt. Dennis Wolfford told ABC 13. “We don’t know if it was road rage. We don’t know if it has something to do with him being law enforcement. We’re still trying to determine that.”

The suspect’s vehicle has not yet been located.
