OLNEY, Md. — A Montgomery County police officer succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a vehicle while on a DUI enforcement assignment, according to a press release from the department.

Officer Noah Leotta was returning to his cruiser after a traffic stop on Dec. 3 when a 2012 Honda CRV slammed into the driver’s side of the cruiser. The driver kept going after striking Leotta.

Leotta was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. After fighting for survival for several days, Leotta died on December 10.

“Noah loved his job and demonstrated a level of enthusiasm that drove a work ethic and professionalism that we can all aspire to; these qualities made him the man and the police officer that he was,” Chief J. Thomas Manger said in the release.

The department has asked the community to keep Leotta’s friends, family and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers.
