Mich. officer who died suddenly on duty was 'respected, revered'

Authorities said Sgt. Daniel Kammerzell's passing did not involve any suspicious or criminal circumstance

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. — The Shelby Township Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Veteran Sgt. Daniel Kammerzell died suddenly while on duty, the department said late Saturday night in a news release He was 51, according to the police department.

"Kammerzell was a respected and revered 17-year member of the Police Department," the department said in a statement.

Authorities said Sgt. Kammerzell's passing does not involve any suspicious or criminal circumstance. A cause was not announced.

"His families, both blood and blue, request privacy and time to mourn this difficult circumstance," Shelby Township police said in the announcement. "As such no further information will be shared and no additional questions honored."
