Pa. LEO dies after suffering cardiac arrest during training

YORK CITY, Pa. — A Pennsylvania police department is mourning the loss of one of their own after an officer died during a SWAT training exercise.

The York Daily Record reports that 37-year-old Officer Alex Sable, who had been with the York City PD for four years, was completing a the training session when he went into cardiac arrest. Sable was transported to a hospital where he died Wednesday.

Sable was training to become a part of York County’s Quick Response team. The officer was among 12 people training in a swimming pool Sunday, and as Sable was preparing to exit the pool at the end of the session, he suffered the medical emergency.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Officer Alex Sable,” a York City news release said. “The City of York is deeply saddened by this loss, as Officer Sable was a respected member of the York City Police Department and a friend to all. He will be sincerely missed ... Any city support needed will be provided to our officers and the family during this time of bereavement.”

Sable, who also served in the Marine Corps, leaves behind a wife and three young children.
