FORT WORTH — A Fort Worth Police Department officer died on Wednesday after he experienced a medical emergency while on duty a day earlier, the department said.

Brian Gentry, 53, went to a hospital emergency room, was admitted to the ICU and died hours later, the department said.

Gentry had been employed by the city as an officer since 2004. He was assigned to the fugitive unit as a U.S. Marshals Service task force officer.

“The loss of a member of our department is deeply personal,” police Chief Eddie Garcia wrote. “Brian was one of our own, and his passing will be felt by the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him and calling him a friend.”

Garcia wrote that the department would “come together to support one another and, most importantly, to support his family as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”

Funeral arrangements were not immediately released.
