SNYDER, Texas — A Texas officer who was shot in the head alleges he was disciplined for medical complications.

KTXS reports that Corporal Darrell Campbell, who formerly worked as a patrol officer for the Snyder PD, was shot in the head in the line of duty in July 2011 after responding to a “shots fired” call. The LEO spent two years in rehab before returning to the Snyder Law Enforcement Center as a desk clerk.

Campbell said he’s being written up, sent home and suspended from the department due to the medical conditions he suffered from his injuries. Campbell said he suffers from seizures that make him tired and cause him to fall asleep, resulting in him getting written up.

“From 2013 to 2015, I was making Corporal pay and then they cut me in half to clerk pay. So now, they are cutting me down again by doing all this suspension crap,” Campbell said.

Campbell’s sister, Belinda Campbell Pittman, said her brother has been written up for the past couple of weeks and even had his job threatened. After coming back from his suspension last week, Campbell said the department reduced his pay again.

A friend of Campbell said the department cut the LEO’s pay “from salary to hourly.”

“Darrell Campbell is a respected former officer who was seriously injured in the line of duty. Due to his disability, we placed him in a civilian position and have made accommodations for him. We have no further comment on this current personnel situation,” Snyder City Manager Merle Taylor said in a statement

Those close to the LEO believe the PD is clearly discriminating against Campbell. Pittman said if the department believes Campbell needs to stop working, they should handle the situation in a different way.

A GoFundMe account was created for Campbell to raise funds for his medical expenses.
