NEW YORK - Officials are broadening an investigation into a NYPD ticket fixing scandal that involves as many as 400 officers, who face disciplinary measures ranging from loss of vacation time to termination.
According to the New York Post, the department will charge cops internally in all 12 Bronx precincts - and possibly other boroughs - for allegedly helping out friends and family by “losing” paperwork and missing court dates.
“This is huge,” a source told the Post. “That’s a lot of cops all in one shot. I’ve never heard of something like that before, this many police officers charged in one period.”
A more limited grand jury probe was initiated last week to investigate misconduct in the Bronx, but it has since broadened in scope.
According to the Daily Mail, the original probe began three years ago when a wiretap caught an officer suspected of dealing drugs asking a fellow officer to take care of a summons for him.
