HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A man threatened a Hollywood police officer outside police headquarters, then followed the officer inside, where the two got into a violent struggle as the man attempted to take the officer’s gun, officials said.

According to the Hollywood Police Department, Shawn Brennen, 43, approached an officer outside the headquarters building, at 3250 Hollywood Boulevard, on the afternoon of July 2, and began threatening the officer. Police did not disclose the nature of the alleged threats.

In an attempt to diffuse the situation, the officer backed away and went into the lobby, but Brennen followed and tried to take the officer’s holstered gun, the department said in a statement.

Several officers who witnessed the fight came to the officer’s aid. Brennen was subdued and arrested.

He faces charges of attempted premeditated murder, armed robbery, armed burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
