When removing suspects from vehicles on a vehicle search, have them sit on the curb after they have been patted down.
While sitting on the curb, instruct the suspect to extend his legs out and cross them. This increases the time it would take the suspect to stand up and flee or attack an officer. It gives the officer the advantage of time to react to the situation.
And most importantly, NEVER search a car alone.
