FRESNO, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol officer was responding to a group of 40 people driving around recklessly and doing car tricks when dozens of people surrounded his patrol vehicle.
According to Your Central Valley, the group’s sideshow blocked off the intersection and drivers were doing donuts in the middle of the street. The officer tried to pull over a vehicle doing donuts when the group began kicking and hitting his patrol vehicle.
“A very hard strike, and had that glass broken, it probably would have shattered on the officer,” Lt. Mindy Casto told the publication. “So we can only speculate what kind of damage may have happened.”
Officials say the group caused up to $12,000 worth of damage, destroying several windows.
Casto said they’ve identified suspects but no arrests have been made.
“I can’t really speculate what the crowds intent was, but what they did do absolutely was attack a vehicle with an officer inside of it,” Casto said.
The suspects could face several felony charges, including assault and vandalism.
