PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — A sheriff’s department released video of a deputy who smashed a car window to release a bear trapped inside the vehicle.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Department recently came across a bear rummaging through a vehicle near Lake Tahoe, NBC Bay Area reports. The department said the bear damaged the interior of the vehicle so much that the doors couldn’t be unlocked.
Officials decided to break the car’s windows to free the trapped bear in the interest of safety.
The video captured a deputy smashing a window and scurrying away as the bear climbs out of the vehicle and runs into the forest.
The department reminded the public to never leave food in a vehicle while visiting Lake Tahoe.
