MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A K-9 deputy in Florida was able to talk down an armed suicidal suspect and get him to surrender.
WOFL reports that Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a domestic altercation when they learned that Sean T. Shea, 32, battered and strangled a female victim. Shea fled before deputies arrived at the scene.
Deputy Jeremie Nix and K-9 Drago located the suspect in a wooded area, at which time Shea informed the deputy he was armed with a firearm and knife and threatened suicide.
The deputy calmly talked down the suspect and successfully persuaded him to surrender. Deputies said Shea didn’t have a firearm but did possess a knife.
Nix and Drago received medical attention after accidentally stepping on a yellow jacket nest during the standoff. Both recovered and returned to work.
Shea was charged with domestic battery by strangulation.
