PARK CITY, Kan. — A local man is being charged with animal cruelty after he tried to use his pet dog as a weapon against an officer, KSN reported.
The incident occurred Aug. 23 after an officer responded to calls of a suspicious person in the area. When the officer arrived, 26-year-old Michael Rush was seen walking a dog through neighbors’ yards.
When the officer attempted to talk to Rush, the suspect began to swing his dog on its leash and hit the officer. The whole incident was caught on dashcam.
“I’ve seen people try to use a dog and sick it on someone as a weapon, but I’ve never seen someone pick up a dog and swing it through the air to use it as a weapon before, that’s a first,” Park City Police Department Chief Phil Bostain told the publication.
Rush was eventually subdued after officers deployed a TASER.
The dog was not hurt during the incident and is in protective custody.
