ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Surveillance footage captured a man assaulting a Virginia officer during a drug arrest.
On Saturday, a Fairfax County officer tried to stop a man, identified as 23-year-old Dadrian Jegede, after he smelled marijuana on the suspect, the Washington Post reported. Police said the man started to push the officer away after the LEO approached him.
A struggle ensued as the officer attempted to get Jegede’s hands behind his back. Several passerby are seen on video recording the incident on their cellphones.
Another officer responded, and Jegede was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported..
Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. said the video shows how “officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect our community.” He said he released the video to show the “dangers of our profession.”
The charges for Jegede, who had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court, include assault on a police officer. Police said he’s being held without bond.
An internal investigation of the incident was underway, per the department’s policy, officials said.
