NEW YORK CITY — The NYPD’s Sergeants Benevolent Association said Sunday its members are declaring “war” on Mayor Bill de Blasio after a gunman tried to assassinate cops in two incidents over less than 12 hours, according to The New York Post.
“Mayor DeBlasio, the members of the NYPD are declaring war on you!” the union tweeted. “We do not respect you, DO NOT visit us in hospitals.”
The SBA told the mayor that “NYPD cops have been assassinated because of you,” before adding: “This isn’t over, Game on!”
The union was responding to a tweet from de Blasio after a gunman stormed the 41st Precinct in the Bronx on Sunday morning, injuring Officer Paul Stroffolino, with Hizzoner calling the shooting “a premeditated assassination attempt against New York’s Finest.”
Cops later said the same shooter, Robert Williams, had allegedly ambushed Bronx cop Jose Gautreaux the night before, leaving him wounded.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the union specifically meant by “declaring war” on the mayor.
