MOREAUVILLE, La. — Brandon Arthur Carpenter has been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting at and hitting three police officers Thursday in Avoyelles Parish.

The officers’ injuries were non-life threatening. A Louisiana State Police officer, a Marksville police officer and a Simmesport officer were injured.

The standoff ended about 7:30 p.m. when officers took Brandon Carpenter into custody. Carpenter had barricaded himself in his home in the 8500 block of La. 114 in Moreauville after he rammed his vehicle into police vehicles during a chase, Sheriff Doug Anderson said.

Carpenter reportedly fired at the officers with a shotgun, apparently loaded with bird shot, and hit the trooper in the shoulder, the Simmesport police officer in the lip and the Marksville police officer. Anderson did not know where the Marksville officer was shot.

Anderson said Carpenter had a warrant for domestic abuse battery, but it was unclear how the chase started.
