RIDGEVILLE, S.C. — Newly released dashcam footage from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office shows a pursuit that ended with a fatal officer-involved shooting.

Deputies shot and killed 24-year-old Shamir Palmer after he pointed a gun at them, The Post and Courier reported.

The Aug. 8 incident began when a deputy tried to stop Palmer for a traffic violation. Palmer refused to pull over and fired a gun from his SUV to patrol vehicles in the pursuit. None of the vehicles were hit. Palmer’s car eventually crashed into trees.

The footage shows the deputies with guns drawn approaching the SUV. Palmer opens the door to step out and guns are fired almost immediately.

A district attorney ruled the officers were justified in their use of force. The coroner ruled the cause of death to be suicide by cop.
