SUMTER, S.C. — Raw dash camera video footage of a November 2015 shoplifting incident that led to an officer-involved shooting and police chase has been released by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
An Horry County police officer feared for the safety of another officer caught in the car and fired his gun at the suspect who was shot in the arm at the Surfside Wal-Mart before leading police on 10-mile police chase that ended around 38th Avenue North, authorities said.
Laquandra D. Borden of Sumter was taken to the hospital for treatment and charged with shoplifting and high and aggravated assault among other charges in connection with the incident.
Following the shooting, Chief Saundra Rhodes with Horry County police requested SLED investigate the officer-involved shooting, and SLED agents responded immediately.
The official results of the investigation have not yet been released.
