TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Body cam footage captured an Oklahoma officer shooting a man who drove towards him after leading a pursuit.

On Tuesday, Tahlequah police responded to a call at an apartment complex about a suspicious person, KOTV reported. Tahlequah Chief Nate King said that a man in black clothes was reportedly “prowling through cars and trying to get into apartments,” according to KTUL.

When police arrived, King said officers heard a truck peel out and flee the scene. Police said the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Darian Daniels, led a two-mile pursuit.

"[Daniels] break checked the officers four times, the first time at 80 miles per hour, trying to get the officers to crash,” King said.

King said Daniels’ truck eventually went off the roadway and crashed. When officers exited their vehicles and approached the suspect, King said Daniels put his truck in reverse and started “coming straight at one of our officers.”

The chief said the officer fired three rounds at the vehicle, hitting Daniels once in the upper left part of his back. King added that Daniels was “highly intoxicated.”

Daniels was treated for a minor gunshot wound and was taken to jail.

The officer who fired the shots, Officer Bronson McNiel, was placed on administrative leave, per policy, while an internal investigation is ongoing.
