NEW YORK — A Virginia couple visiting New York attacked a transit officer after he tried to stop them from jumping a turnstile, DNAinfo reported.

The couple, 21-year-old Alexander Telinde and 20-year-old Emily Weber, were stopped by the officer on April 12 after Telinde jumped a turnstile. The couple fought the officer by taking his baton to hit him repeatedly and choking him with a chain attached to a shield around his neck.

“You’re not real cops. Those are fake badges,” Weber told the officer, according to a police report obtained by the publication.

Telinde hit the officer with the baton on his head, right eye, left shoulder, across the lips and both knees. He yanked the officer’s police shield and caused him to choke. Weber punched the officer in the face.

Another officer responded to the scene as the suspects tried to flee. Both resisted arrest.

The injured officer had a concussion, a black eye and a lump on his head, prosecutors told the news site.

Telinde was charged with assault, harassment, theft of services, menacing of an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Weber was charged with assault and disorderly conduct among others.
