A 23-year Lake County sheriff’s deputy who once accidentally shot herself is now on paid administrative leave after her gun fell out of her holster Wednesday at the Lake County Building.
Karen Harris was walking about 8:30 a.m. in the County Building in Waukegan when her gun fell out of her holster and slid a few feet before stopping under the information desk, said Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran.
The gun did not discharge. No one was injured. Harris will remain on leave pending an internal investigation.
On Feb. 27, 2009, Harris was accidentally wounded in the hand and abdomen by her own gun while removing it from her trunk in the County Building garage.
Waukegan police determined the gun’s trigger was pulled by a hanger stuck in the trigger guard.
