BOSTON — Two construction workers were honored by the Boston Police Commissioner for helping an officer subdue and restrain a suspect, MassLive reported.
“The actions taken by these men are refreshing, especially in these times of violence against police officers, negative publicity, and cellphone videos,” Boston police said in a press release obtained by the publication.
The Aug. 31 confrontation started when Officer Edward Fleming was working detail for Turner Construction and witnessed a suspect in a larceny case from a few weeks prior. Fleming pursued the suspect until they were stopped in a corridor. Fleming attempted to take the suspect into custody, but the suspect shoved him and tried to run away.
Turner Construction Superintendent Ned Flood watched the altercation and approached to help the officer. As the suspect tried to rush past Fleming, Flood tackled him to the ground.
Flood’s colleague, Robert Doyle, also stepped in to help subdue the suspect. The arrest ended with Fleming giving high-fives to both of the construction workers.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, is a career criminal with a violent history and multiple unrelated warrants. He was also charged with larceny from this arrest.
