IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Video of an Idaho office becoming emotional as he signs off his final shift has gone viral.

The East Idaho News reports that Idaho Falls Officer Buc Rogers, 56, signed off for the last time on Sunday. The officer broke down and tried to hold back tears as he said goodbye to his colleagues.

“Dispatch, local units, city and county. 8B-81. 10-42. Thank you for the years,” Rogers said.

His wife recorded the officer’s emotional sign off and posted it on Facebook, which has since gone viral.

“I was leaving a family. When you become a police officer, it’s for life. Your friends become your family,” Rogers said. “You always have your fellow officers and their families no matter what.”

Rogers started his career with the department in 1991 after serving as a U.S. Army policeman for 11 years. Rogers said he retired from the force to spend more time with his family.

He said that being a police officer is a “young man’s game” and that the job has become more difficult over the years due to the negative public perception police get.

Rogers said he was surprised that so many people watch the video and that it shows that “there really are people who care.”
