LEVY COUNTY, Fla. — After a car rolled over and hit a tree this week in north-central Florida, a deputy got the driver and three dogs out and extinguished flames before they engulfed the vehicle.
Deputy J.J. Roe responded to the single-vehicle crash Tuesday east of Bronson, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office said.
After arriving at the scene and seeing the driver trapped inside the smoking vehicle, Roe forced a car door open, ran back to his patrol vehicle to get a fire extinguisher and put out the now-visible flames, the sheriff’s office said.

Roe helped the female driver out, then saved the dogs. No information was released about any possible injuries.
“The current COVID-19 pandemic is overshadowing the constant calls for service that, as you can see for yourself, highlights yet another selfless act by my deputies who are committed to ensuring the safety of each of you,” Levy County Sheriff Robert B. McCallum Jr. said in a statement.
