NORFOLK, Neb. — A sergeant is being praised for his daring split-second decision that stopped a 12-mile pursuit, WOWT reported.
The pursuit ended when Sgt. Volk jumped onto a moving 18-wheeler that Madison County sheriff’s deputies were pursuing on a highway.
“It was just one of those things we had to get done,” said Sgt. Volk to WOWT. “We needed to get that big rig.”
Police discovered the driver wasn’t trying to evade police but was having a diabetic attack. The man’s blood sugar dropped to a dangerously low-level.
Volk leapt onto the running board of the truck, jumped inside and brought the vehicle to a stop. Inside, he found the driver slumped over with little control of the semi.
The driver was given glucose and rushed to a local hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.
