GREENVILLE, S.C. — A Greenville County deputy rescued a suicidal man moments before he attempted to jump from a bridge.

The sheriff’s office released the body camera footage of Deputy Gene Clark rushing to rescue the man, who has not been identified.

According to Fox Carolina, investigators weren’t successful in talking the man down, and that’s when Clark jumped in to help.

“When he saw me, he started to lurch forward, and I started to pull back as hard as I could, and we both fell to the interstate,” said Clark.

Clark was trained by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) on how to work with the mentally ill.

Deputies said the man on the bridge was taken by ambulance to get mental health treatment.
