BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — They could almost taste the agony.

Cops in Brookhaven, Ga., made a grisly — and jelly-filled — discovery Tuesday and showed the carnage on Facebook.

“Just moments ago, your Brookhaven Police officers answered the call each of us fears most. Dozens of donuts fell from a Krispy Kreme delivery truck as it drove along Peachtree Road,” the good-humored police department reported on social media.

Officers reportedly “rushed to the scene,” but there was nothing they could do.

“We found total carnage; donuts scattered along the curb and into gutter- THE GUTTER, people!!!” cops in the 50,000-plus north Georgia town lamented.

Police say they did everything in their powers to salvage the tasty treats, but it was hopeless. The donuts were ruined.

“As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time, and the senseless loss of these delicious pastries has deeply affected all of our officers,” police wrote. “We ask that you keep our department in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn this terrible moment.”

The Facebook posting ended with the hashtag “Only Half Kidding.”

A similar tragedy befell cops in Monmouth County, N.J., in September when they came across multiple cases of beer destroyed on Route 33 after falling off of a truck.

“Oh the humanity,” the Freehold Township police department wrote on Facebook.

Garden State cops set aside their grief long enough to clear up the debris.
