INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were given special gifts Wednesday from an 8-year-old boy who raised more than $17,000 in a campaign to help police.
Jacen Troxell wanted to do something to help after the death of IMPD Officer Perry Renn, who was killed in the line of duty in early July, so he raised money for protective vest plates. One by one, Troxell and his younger brother, Ben, gave each North District officer a ballistic plate—a gift to help keep them safe.
Andy Troxell, who is a detective, was also shot in the line of duty back in 2004. When Officer Renn lost his life, Troxell told his dad he had to help.
