Clean and sharpen your knife when you clean your pistol. When I get home from the range and clean my weapon, I find that it takes just a few extra moments to also wipe my knife clean, drag it across the sharpening stone a few times (always being careful to make 10° to 15° angle to the stone), and wipe it one more time with a drop of light oil. I keep my knife- and pistol-cleaning supplies in the same old ammo box in the closet, which makes life easy and keeps everything in great working order.
